The nation breathed a sigh of relief yesterday afternoon as heavily armed U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended a suspect who posed a serious threat to America’s safety and security. Government agents detained the criminal in Corpus Christi before transferring her to a secure facility in San Antonio, Texas. After the stressful and highly charged operation, agents likely celebrated the day’s catch with beers and harrowing accounts of the dangerous illegal alien they had removed from America’s crime-ravaged streets.
Did we mention the entire police action occurred outside of an operating and recovery room at a local hospital? Or that the suspect was a patient with cerebral palsy undergoing surgery? Oh, and that she was just ten years old and four armed agents — who terrified the child after her operation — found it necessary to “apprehend” her immediately following emergency surgery?
If the idea of four armed government agents seizing a child with a debilitating disease in her hospital room does not offend or insult you, or make you cringe to be part of Donald Trump’s great America, then there is something seriously wrong with you. The Trump regime’s attack on undocumented aliens continues to become more and more Nazi-like with each report of Border Patrol and ICE rains around the country.
“The moral test of a government is how that government treats those in the dawn of life.”
In the late 1930s and early 40s, no one in Nazi Germany was safe from Hitler’s SS and Stormtrooper raids. The Nazis acted without regard for age, sex, ability, or compassion in their rabid attempts to cleanse the “Homeland” of Hitler’s unwanted masses. Hardened German soldiers dragged mothers, fathers, and children from homes and hiding places and did not think twice about the infirm, disabled, sick, or young. Whoever says that Trump’s policies are nothing like Hitler’s needs a history lesson and a cage.
Rosa Maria Hernandez is only ten. She arrived in the United States when she was three months old, and has lived in the country for her entire life with undocumented and documented family members alike. When Border Patrol agents caught wind of the illegal ten-year-old on her way to the hospital for emergency treatment, they did not question their orders or consider Rosa Maria’s life and death circumstances. Just a child weighing less than 70 pounds, they did not exhibit any consciousness in assessing the immediate danger that little Rosa Maria presented.
When armed thugs carrying a badge follow government directions blindly without personal conscience, it is not law enforcement, public safety, or a necessary step in towards national security. It is fascist idiocy and it is a sign of weakness.
The Dalai Lama once said, “Compassion and tolerance are not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength.” When public servants pretending to be human become automatons of an evil regime — whether it be those who served Mao, Mussolini, Hitler, Papa Doc, or Donald Trump — and lose the ability to function with compassion, they demonstrate the weaknesses of their leader.
Rosa Maria’s lawyers from the Worker’s Defense Action Fund objected to the Border Patrol actions and the child’s detention away from her parents and family. The ten-year-old is likely to be in government custody for weeks or months during her recovery from emergency gall-bladder surgery. However, the government could not be swayed in its position to incarcerate Rosa Maria because the tiny sick child poses a potential threat to terrorize 325 million Americans.
Glad that’s settled…now maybe Donald Trump and his SS-styled Dreamtroopers will focus on building additional walls around Shriner’s Hospitals and Ronald McDonald Houses. Once Trump finally gets around to rewriting the Affordable Care Act, he can add a provision that all sick children have mandatory restraints and armed escorts while in hospital. America will be a great and secure place knowing that ailing kids have been eliminated from national threat scenarios and that police resources are being wasted while drug dealers and hardened gang members walk the streets with impunity.
We are not proud to be Americans today. We are full of shame, sadness, and disgrace knowing that our nation is being debased to appease the self-serving and morally bankrupt aspirations of a lunatic who is jealous of Hitler and the worst people in history. We have no respect for the tyranny of the uniforms, badges, and titles of those who lack the judgment to understand that a sick child is vulnerable and deserving of protection and not an enemy.
Throughout modern history, from Nelson Mandela to Hubert Humphrey; and Mahatma Gandhi to Pearl Buck, there have been many iterations of “society will be judged by how it treats its children” and “the moral test of a government is how that government treats those in the dawn of life.” Regardless of how it is said, or who says it, the lesson remains the same and Donald Trump’s great America has failed at Rosa Maria Hernandez’s expense.
